I bet you didn't know....
Now we may all hear a fair bit about the wars and suffering that have taken place in the countries that we work in. But here are a few things I bet you didn’t know about DR Congo....
There are a host of good DR Congo footballers playing in the UK.
The one of the most successful is probably Leroy Lita (born in DRC), who now plays for England Under 21s and Reading FC. (He also dated Big Brother's Charley Uchea.)
Herita Ilunga, from Kinshasa, is a defender who signed for West Ham in September and his been their best player this season. It’s worth noting that his surname is also the one of the world's most untranslatable words! Apparently, Ilunga means "a person who is ready to forgive any abuse for the first time, to tolerate it a second time, but never a third time". Cripes!
The following DR Congo nationals also play for major clubs:
Fabrice Muamba (fled DRC in 1999, now plays for Bolton and was bought from nal for £5m).
Gabriel Zakuani (Fulham)
Kazenga Lua Lua (Newcastle)
Tresor Kandol (Leeds United)
Calvin Zola (Crewe)
Peggy Lokando (Southend)
DR Congo has also produced several musicians including: Ya Kid K , Hip Hop artist; Leki, R&B artist and Kaysha, Rapper.
