Uganda
Uganda is a land-locked county in East Africa that contains many great lakes; in fact it shares the largest lake in Africa with its neighbours Tanzania and Kenya.
Despite recent peace deals and government reform, Uganda has to deal with the fallout of decades of violence. In the North of the country many people had to leave their homes because of the conflict which has destroyed families and meant people now live in poverty. The basic functions within society such as healthcare and education have been massively disrupted.
Tens of thousands of children were abducted by rebels and used as soldiers. Those that have gone back home often don’t get to go to school and have nobody to take care of them. The war in northern Uganda has terrorized thousands of Ugandans for over two decades. Thousands of civilian people were killed and many more have experienced terrible violence.
