Afghanistan

Afghanistan is a land-locked, mountainous country located in central Asia. The nation has had a difficult past - decades of conflict have had a major impact on the country. As a result Afghanistan and its people have had to deal with a lot.

Today it is one of the most dangerous places in the world to be a child and strict social and legal rules makes the life of women and girls especially difficult.

One in five children dies before their 5th birthday. Those that do make it may face a life living and working on the streets without the chance to go to school. Some girls may be married off as young as 10 to much older men for the money that the marriage will mean for their impoverished families.
