The Kite Runner tells the story of Amir, a boy from the Kabul, Afghanistan, who is haunted by the guilt of betraying his childhood friend Hassan, the son of his father's Hazara servant.The story is set against a backdrop of conflict, from the fall of the monarchy in Afghanistan through the Soviet invasion, the mass exodus of refugees to Pakistan and the United States, and the rise of the Taliban regime. The Kite Runner was a popular 2003 novel that was turned into a film in 2007.

 


Inncent Voices is based on the real life events of the screen writer Oscar Torres and is the moving, yet harrowing story of how an 11 year old boy faces the difficult choice of fighting for the government or the peasant rebels in 1980s civil war-torn El Salvador.

 

 


Hotel Rwanda is an Oscar nominated film about Rwandan Genocide of 1994. It tells the true life story of Paul Rusesabagina, a hotel manager, who has to fight to save more than a thousand refugees by granting them shelter in his hotel, whilst millions around them are brutally murdered.

 

 


Kiss the Dust portrays the journey of a Kurdish refugee family. Tara is a thirteen-year-old girl living in Iraq in the 1980's. She has what we would call a normal life; that is until Tara, and her family, find themselves running from the Iraqi government all because they are Kurdish. Their journey takes them up into the mountains with whatever possessions they could carry and then on to refugee camps. This harsh portrayal of life under Saddam Hussein shows the devastating impact the Gulf War had on individuals and whole communities alike.
