drop-in-centres for street children
When a country is hit by war, society often breaks down. Families are torn apart and it is the children who end up suffering the most. Children who haven’t been orphaned by war are too often abandoned by their parents as they are unable to cope with the costs of sending their children to school, or even feeding them.
Our drop-in-centres for children living and working on the streets of south Iraq have helped them improve their lives. We have been able to offer literacy training, skills that will help them get a job, computer education and medical care. They have learnt skills such as carpentry and tailoring that will ensure a safer, more secure future for them. Many of the children we have worked with have now gone on to get jobs with local businesses where they are treated and paid fairly.
