Child Protection in Internally Displaced People (IDP) Camps
Thousands of kids in, Northern Uganda live with violence and abuse. They have no one to turn to and find it hard to protect themselves from danger or get what they need like money or education.
Some who suffer the most are girls who have had babies, disabled, sick or orphaned kids and young people who were forced to fight as part of an army.
We work with children living with or who are affected by HIV / AIDS and children living with disability. We also work with many child headed households and unaccompanied children who need a safe and protected environment. There are also lots of children who were once a part of an armed group. Across northern Uganda an estimated 66,000 young people have been abducted.
Our projects help these kinds of young people by helping them to support themselves. One project is aimed at helping kids who had been separated from their parents in the IDP camps by giving them the materials they needed to go to school.
We have also set up a project that helps these young people get life skills such as parenting and self-protection; supporting them being independent individuals is our aim.
